U Don't Survive - Remixed by FaltyDL

original Machinedrum Track

About this guy

Drew Lustman! From the dark underbelly of New York; this man makes some seriously cool atmospheric house and garage music.  According to his Discogs profile he makes "nostalgic tracks immersed in the old New York and Chicago sound yet creating a more subtle futuristic Big Apple version mashing together influences from hip hop, dubstep, UKG, soul, jungle, broken beats and electronica creating his own sound."  He mostly just makes expertly mixed atmospheric electronic music that's totally badass.

Facebook  -  Soundcloud  -  Discogs  -  lost.fm

Why I like this

Atmospheric. Expertly mixed.  Incomprehensible vocals.  Beautiful weirdness. And it goes far beyond the original Machinedrum track.  This is such an epic remix, and is so good and psychedelic without sounding like something that can only be enjoyed when uh. . . in the right state of mind.  Highly recommended.  Big thanks to Jourdan G. for the find.

That Smooth by Eric Hodges

About this guy

Eric Hodges is a producer, composer, recording engineer, out of Los Angeles.

Why I like this

That Smooth, according to his soundcloud description "cannot be described in words! You can only hear it in your soul."  I don't know about what you are feeling in your soul, but this track is a hard thing to describe.  That Smooth has elements of jazz, and experimental electronic music.  All the strangest samples are cut short by a hilariously thin and quiet clap noise before cutting to some soulful keyboard riffs, and then finally to that squeaky sound an inflated balloon sometimes makes when you rub it.  Eric has made something that draws a perfect line between weird schizo electronic music, and good hip hop jazz and funk.  This is a rad track, and your ears will agree.

See you tomorrow.

Megablast  by Baconhead

About these guys

UK Duo, Autobee and Ebola are producers, performers of "Scifi beats to confuse your brain."  Mostly their music is an extremely well produced mixed bag of great sounds from every weird electronic genre in one place.  And it's damn good.
Website  -  Facebook  -  Soundcloud  -  Beatport  -  Turbo Loaded Beat Tape

Why I like this

This piece of musical badassery is part of a beattape called Turbo Loaded.  Yes.  I said tape.  As in this song was released on cassette, in 2011.  It's track four on side B.  It was also available free along with their Astro Sludge EP.

Megablast will get in your brain, and stay there.  The entire excerpt is based around a 12/8 riff with some pretty basic drums that gets repeated over and over for the entirety of it's one minute and 55 second length.  The track is peppered with all sorts of great laser sounds and lo-fi sounding scifi things underneath.  What's amazing is that Megablast comes off sounding incredibly analog (if that's even a way that I can describe it).  Everything sounds run through well. . . a tape, . .  and the final result is something that has warm and organic polish, even though we're being assaulted with Nintendo sounds.  And it's so good.

See you tomorrow.

Mana Magic by Lobo Incognito

About this guy

Lobo Incognito is a producer of psychadellic, experimental, vocally focused electronic music out of Lagnua Niguel.

Why I like this

This is the kind of music that is appreciated.  Lobo is making sounds that are really well executed, and are crazily unique.  So I wont compare; I'll describe.  Heavily altered vocals start out the track in an eerie way that highlights certain patterns that come from having different filters emphasizing different parts of the sound of his voice.  This doesn't start like a track where I think "hey he's put some kind of filter on that, can't wait for it to open up and really get started,"  Nope,  It takes a good ten or fifteen seconds before you realize what the hell you are actually listening to.  Even when you recognize that it's someone's vocals you are listening to, they don't sound quite human. Lobo's doing sophisticated stuff with sound in this track.

Then enter the drums, and music behind the vocals which evolve in an incredibly smooth and interesting way.  Every sound has interesting timbre that is always coming out loud and clear through the entire track. The otherworldy voices, the tape saturated sounding bass and snare, the synth harp, it all comes together incredibly well and manages to sound pretty damn crisp. Mana Magic is a really well realized soundscape filled with haunting texture.

The drum and percussion sounds gradually change and the song takes a left turn about half way through.  Mana Magic sounds less like Lobo is taking synthesized sounds and breathing life in them than it does like Lobo's music IS alive. And it's breathing its hot breath on the back of your neck.  This is so original, and so well done.  I have to give some major props this stuff.  Way to go dude!

See you tomorrow.

Romanesck by Aniline

About this group

Aniline is a collaboration, based in France, between Alex Rich and Flo Rian.  According to their bio, this project is inspired and influenced a lot by colors.  Their sounds are definitely leaning towards IDM, ambient, and experimental.
Website  -  Facebook  -  Myspace  -  Soundcloud

Why I like this

Romanesck starts out with this nice meandering lead synth line that has a catchy feel even though I can't be sure if I'm ever hearing it repeat.  Nice glitchy vocal and drum programming add in around a pretty straight forward four-on-the-floor beat.  As things start to develop, Romanesck never stops sounding polished and full of nice little motifs and electronic bells and whistles. It continually arrives at all these really cool musical moments that feel like I'm being treated to a series of well executed theme and variations.  Even as the track wraps up it transitions to a nice glitchy, dancy, big beat sounding loop that fades out. So good.

See you tomorrow!

Song of the Livid Drawn Outside The Lines of Reason by enoruoS (Sourone)

update 11/28/12:  Song of the Livid was the working title of this track, and has been renamed by the creator.

About this guy

enoruoS is where Sourone a.k.a. Michal Kalinowski dumps his "melodic, ambient, and breaky" sounds on soundcloud.  Even with the brilliantly obvious name in reverse not unlike Spacetime Continuum's album Emit Ecaps, and later Remit Recaps, it still took me a while to track down Michal's (or is it Michael's?) original profile, and eventually his facebook page.

He hails from Poland and is a producer of IDM, psychedelia, glitch electronica, experimental, ambient, micro break beats. . . . .and well you get the idea.  This is the type of music where anyone who ends up listening to a lot of his work will probably start throwing the word pioneer around when describing him and his music to others.  He does a little bit of everything, and he does it really, really well from what I've heard so far.

Shakespeare with dogs by Trian Kayhatu

About this guy

Trian Kayhatu is a composer, producer from the Netherlands.  He's done work for movies, artists, fashion shows, and theater.
Soundcloud  -  Bandcamp

Why I like this

How can you not like something called "Shakespeare with dogs?" Am I right?  He also has a track called Chuck Norris!  This schizophrenic breakbeat track (he calls it futurefunk) is mind bending without feeling like a fuck you to the listener, like so many experimental tracks always ultimately come off.  The overall mix on this guy sounds raw, which works really well for this track.  It gives me the impression that Trian is just dripping with creative energy and whipped this track out with out a whole lot of second thought.  My favorite part comes a little over a minute in, when the random synths and the weird funky drums all drop out just long enough for you to hear an unaccompanied sample of someone smugly saying "That's right."

See you tomorrow!
